About

I’m Dr. Howie Chang, D.C., a licensed chiropractor practicing in San Jose, California. Before becoming a chiropractor, I was a NCAA Division I swimmer and an All-American athlete at UC San Diego, where I developed a deep appreciation for the body’s resilience and ability to heal.
I know how pain and injuries can pull you away from the present—disrupting not just your body, but your life. For me, it wasn’t a single injury but a buildup of challenges—including remnants from my swimming career—that left me searching for ways to heal and rebuild, both physically and emotionally. Chiropractic care became my turning point, helping me reconnect with myself and gain the clarity I needed to move forward. This passion led me to pursue a Doctor of Chiropractic degree at Palmer College of Chiropractic in San Jose, where I graduated with honors, including the Clinical Excellence Award and the Virgil Strang Philosophy Award. As your doctor, I’ll work with you to create personalized care plans that address physical challenges and explore deeper layers of health—thoughts, traumas, and toxins—to help you rediscover a stronger, more resilient you.
In my free time, I coach swimming at my alma mater, Archbishop Mitty High School in San Jose, and mentor new chiropractors as the
First Year Practitioner Task Force Director for the CalChiro Board. I also enjoy Olympic weightlifting, practicing Brazilian jiu-jitsu, and skiing.
My Chiropractic Philosophy
True healing goes beyond the adjustment. It’s about finding ways to make care a part of your everyday life—through movement, breath, and strategies that actually work for you. My approach blends breath-based care, trauma-informed healing, and movement-centered diagnostics to help patients find balance, build resilience, and feel more like themselves again.
Breath-Based and Trauma-Informed Care
Breath is a powerful tool for healing, reconnecting the mind and body, and creating a sense of safety within. Pain is often the surface of deeper physical or emotional trauma, and by focusing on breathwork and a whole-person approach, I help patients reclaim strength, vitality, and long-term resilience.
Movement-Centered Diagnostics
Every care plan begins with a functional exam to identify problem areas and patterns of movement. Through guided tests and targeted adjustments, I ensure treatments address the root causes of pain. Progress is reassessed in real-time to ensure tangible, meaningful improvements.
From Adjustment to Action
Healing doesn’t stop at the adjustment—it’s only the beginning. I provide personalized rehab exercises and movement strategies to help patients integrate their adjustments into daily life. By focusing on strengthening, mobility, and lifestyle changes, I empower patients to create long-term balance, relief, and resilience.
